CENTRE: COST CENTRE, NEWCASTLE: LADYSMITH REGION
SALARY: R 147 036 PER ANNUM (SALARY LEVEL 03)

REQUIREMENTS

ABET.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of use of tools and equipment.

Knowledge of identification of spares and equipment.

Basic literacy & numeracy skills.

Ability to perform routine tasks.

Ability to operate equipment and machines.

The ideal candidate should be honest, responsible, friendly, have integrity, be polite and comply with code of conduct.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

Perform operation and maintenance function.

Handle and operate basic hand tools and machinery.

Maintain records of own work requested and completed.

Report faults and problems to supervisor.

Clean and maintain safe plant equipment.

About KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport was established in 1994 after a process of amalgamation between the former Natal Roads Department and KwaZulu Transport. Legislatively it was established in terms of Section 7 (subsection 2 and 3) of the Public Service Act, 1994 as amended.

The aims of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport is to:

  • Provide access and mobility within KwaZulu-Natal through the planning and provision of access roads and bridges (including pedestrian bridges) to communities, particularly the previously marginalised rural areas with the aim of improving the quality of the lives of our people. In so doing, we strive to achieve an equitable, balanced road network;
  • Effectively management the road infrastructure network through the planning, construction, repair and maintenance of a balanced road network that supports the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy and the Provincial Spatial Economic Development Strategy in order to promote economic and social development of KwaZulu-Natal;
  • Promote an integrated land transport system through the creation of a well-managed, integrated land transportation system that is accessible to all the people of KwaZulu-Natal;
  • Promote a safety road environment through the provision of a safe, regulated road environment through Education, Enforcement, Engineering and Evaluation.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport is responsible for the management of the transportation system in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, including:

  • The construction, upgrading, maintenance and control of the provincial road network; 
  • The regulation, management and overall control of public and freight transport operations; 
  • The registration and licensing of vehicles and drivers; 
  • The regulation of traffic; 
  • The implementation of Road Safety Campaigns and Awareness Programmes; and 
  • The management of the provincial vehicle fleet.
