Where can I get a bursary/funds to further my studies?
This is perhaps one of the most asked question by students and aspiring students in South Africa. We have decided to answer this question and give more information to this so that it can help students out there on how to fund their studies.
The government of South African has more information to this and this can be your first step towards funding.
Just bear in mind that there are sometimes a lot of procedures and documentation for some of the funding applications. However if you endure the application process and provide the required documents in time, you will get funded. So take your time and select your best funding that you think you have more chances of getting and apply for it.
The following organisations may help you fund your studies once you have finished school:
Department of Higher Education and Training
The Department maintains a list of government bursaries(link is external) available to deserving students.
It also has a website with international scholarship opportunities available to South Africans.
National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)
NFSAS provides funding for deserving students who cannot afford further education. From 2018 this will be in the form of a bursary rather than a loan as was the case previously. Courses at public technical and vocational education and training.(TVET) colleges are also funded by NFSAS.
